About the Show
The South African telenovela Umkhokha: The Curse was created as a spin-off prequel to the drama series Umkhokha. It takes us back to the beginning of the original plot to see how it all began.
The drama about two families at conflict, Umkhokha, which ended on a cliffhanger, promises a new era.
Umkhokha: The Curse begins the story at the beginning rather than continuing where the first series left off. How and when did it all begin?
How did we arrive at the scenario where the fictitious Ithempeli Lenkosi megachurch turned into a lethal conflict zone?
We are introduce to the main characters at the beginning of the new series as we unpack and get to know them.
We also see the chain of events that leads to the leadership conflict and the deadly rivalry between the Gumede/Mzobe and Mthembu families, which concludes in a war for life and death… all in the name of God and power.
Umkhokha The Curse
goes beyond the premise that the desire for power and wealth are the source of evil, even in the most sacred of locations.
Deli Malinga as MaMzobe, Sibonile Ngubane as Difa, Nay Maps as Sphamandla, and Hope Mbhele as Mabusi are among the cast members who are returning.
In place of Sthandiwe Kgoroge and Mondli Makhoba, new cast members Gcinile Nkosi as MaNzimande and Daniel Hadebe as Reggie respectively.
The series stars Khanyisani Kheswa as Young Zibuse, Omega Mncube as Young Kwazi, Zodumo Shange as Young Thenjiwe, Zama Mchunu as Thabisile, Lindi Pretty Zungu as Young Zodwa, Martin Ziqubu as Bab Mzobe, Nay Maps as Siphamandla, Deli Malinga as MaMzobe, Sibonile Ngubane as Difa Gumede, Hope Mbhele as MaBusi, Gcinile Nkosi as MaNzimande, Langalakhe Zwane as Maphalala and Nokubonga Khuzwayo as Xolile.
Executive producer Duma Ndlovu of Rhythm World Productions and Mandla KaNozulu are the creators and producers of Umkhokha.
The writing team also includes Caroline Doherty, Ntando Mhlongo, Awelani Makhuvha, Zintle Bobi, and Siphosethu Tshapu as co-writers.
Director Luthando Mngomezulu is in charge.
